Course Overview

Course Details

Get ready for a colorful game of hide-and-seek where blending in is the key to victory. In this fun and social course, learners play Meccha Chameleon, a creative multiplayer game where players use paint to camouflage themselves into the environment, or become the seeker and hunt for cleverly hidden friends.

How Each Session Works

Each session features multiple rounds, giving every learner plenty of chances to hide, seek, and develop new strategies. We play on a variety of maps to keep things new and exciting, so there is always a fresh challenge waiting whether your child is a camouflage expert or loves the thrill of searching every corner for hidden players.

Skills They Practice While Playing

Students practice observation, creative thinking, and teamwork while they play. They learn to read their surroundings, plan clever hiding spots, and adjust their strategy round after round, all wrapped up in laughter, chatting, and friendly competition.

A Welcoming Social Environment

This is a warm, welcoming space where kids come to make new friends, show off their sneaky hiding skills, and see if they can spot everyone before time runs out. Learners laugh, chat, and connect over a game they love, all under the care of a mentor who keeps it kind and inclusive.

Who This Course Is Perfect For

This course is perfect for learners who enjoy hide-and-seek style games, multiplayer adventures, creative strategy and problem-solving, friendly social gaming, and making new friends while having fun. No prior experience is needed, just bring your creativity and a positive attitude.

What Your Child Will Gain

Your child will build social confidence, sharpen their observation and creative-thinking skills, and practice teamwork and good sportsmanship, all while doing something they genuinely love. Most of all, they will leave each session having laughed, connected, and made friends who share their interests.

Come Play With Us

Whether your child loves to hide in plain sight or hunt down every last player, there is always a new challenge waiting. Come make new friends, show off those sneaky skills, and join the fun.

Materials Needed
  • Meccha Chameleon (purchase and download on Steam: https://store.steampowered.com/app/4704690/MECCHA_CHAMELEON/) installed on your child's device
  • Internet connection

Friendship Through Shared Play

Finding friends who share their interests can be hard for gifted kids. This course is a weekly hangout where your child connects with peers over a game they already love. Parents tell us their kids look forward to this all week and talk about their new friends constantly. That sense of belonging is worth more than any worksheet.

Strategy and Social Skills in a Low-Pressure Setting

Meccha Chameleon builds observation, creative problem-solving, and good sportsmanship, all while your child is having fun and socializing. There are no grades, no tests, and no pressure. Just playful competition, good conversation, and the quiet confidence that comes from being part of the group.

For Credit Option

YSA is a UC-registered online publisher and WASC-accredited Supplementary Education Center, which means our courses can count toward official college credit requirements. State schools can recognize the courses your student takes here, adding real legitimacy to your homeschooling journey or building on top of your student's existing transcript. That unlocks two ways to enroll: For Credit -- Your student earns official, accredited credit toward their transcript. For-credit students complete weekly assignments that build toward their transcript grade. Outside-of-class work ranges from 1-2 hours per week. Perfect for families who want documentation that reflects what their child is actually capable of -- to show the world how brilliant they are. For Enrichment -- Your student takes the very same course purely for the love of learning. No grades, no outside-of-class work, no credit attached. Just the content, the community, and the growth. Same course. Same mentor. Same experience in class. You choose what fits your family.

If you homeschool, this works seamlessly. If your student attends another school full time, we create a report card and transcript that we share with you, and you share with the school. It is up to your primary school to accept it and add it to your student's official transcript.

What Your Child Will Gain

  • Play Meccha Chameleon across a variety of maps, using paint to camouflage into the environment or hunting down cleverly hidden friends
  • Practice observation, creative thinking, and quick strategy as they adjust their approach round after round
  • Chat, laugh, and team up with other kids who love the same kind of playful, social gaming
  • Build social confidence and good sportsmanship in a relaxed, welcoming space designed for kids who want to connect through shared interests

Jenny

Mentor & Art Instructor

Hi! I love to teach classes that are fun and promote discussion and creativity. In all of my classes I mix critical thinking with out of the box thinking so that the kids learn something brand new! I find the best way to do this is by using books, video games, trivia and other interactive components to keep them engaged and wanting to learn. My passion for critical thought stems from my degree in Philosophy. The integration of pop culture in my classes is rooted in a lifetime of toy collecting, video game playing, and during my time as a staff writer for an online comic book review site. Over the past five years I have created community-based, pop-up craft classes for parents and children that integrate culture and thought, and I am excited about the opportunity to share these types of activities with my students! As a neurodivergent educator, I've poured my heart into creating classes that are inclusive, flexible, and designed to meet a wide range of learning needs. My goal is to help every learner thrive, whether that means adapting lessons on the fly, incorporating favorite interests, or rethinking what “school” can look like. Together, we’ll learn, grow, and have fun while breaking away from outdated ideas of traditional education.

QUESTIONS ABOUT THIS COURSE

Questions About Meccha Chameleon

Everything you need to know before enrolling your child.

Do we need to buy the game, and how does my child play?

Yes. Meccha Chameleon is a low-cost game you purchase and download once on Steam (https://store.steampowered.com/app/4704690/MECCHA_CHAMELEON/), then install on your child's device. Once it's installed and you have an internet connection, your child is all set to join the live rounds each week.

How does this course work?

Meccha Chameleon meets once per week for 50 minutes, every week from August through December. Your child joins the same tight-knit group of up to 8 students and the same mentor all semester long. Same friends, same mentor, new rounds and new maps every week.

Can my child join from anywhere?

Yes. YSA families join from 47+ states and 17 countries across 6 continents. All you need is an internet connection. We schedule sections across multiple time zones so families worldwide can find a time that works.

What if my child is not the right age for this course?

Our gifted and 2e students experience such asynchronous development that hard age limits rarely tell the full story. If your student should be aged up or aged down, contact us at support@youngscholarsacademy.org or click the chat in the bottom right corner of the screen. We do this all the time.

Does my child need to turn their camera on?

No. Cameras are always optional. Always. Many of our students start with cameras off and turn them on when they're comfortable. Our mentors engage every student equally, cameras on or off.

Does my child need a diagnosis to enroll?

No. If you're here, you're in the right place. We don't require paperwork, evaluations, or labels. Whether your child has been formally identified as gifted or twice-exceptional, whether you suspect it but haven't pursued testing, or whether you just know your kid's brain works differently and nothing else has fit, they're welcome here.

Can I use ESA or charter funds for this course?

Yes. YSA is an approved vendor with 10+ state ESA programs including Arizona ESA, Utah Fits All, ClassWallet, My Tech High, Florida Step Up, and others. Enroll directly to secure your child's spot, submit the invoice to your ESA, and your payment method is refunded when funds transfer. Many families pay zero out of pocket.

What if my child doesn't love this course?

If your child isn't loving a course by the end of the first week, swap into a different course. Same semester. No questions. Not the right fit within the first month? We'll stop payments, switch courses, or issue credit toward any future course. The credit never expires. And you keep every bonus you've received. Over 93% of YSA families don't just stay. They add more courses.

How do I enroll?

Click "See Available Times" on this page, pick the section that fits your schedule, and your child's spot is secured immediately. No phone call. No placement test. No prerequisite.

Their best year starts here.

Right now, a kid who thinks like your kid is in a course they chose, with a mentor who was once just like them, surrounded by friends who don't think they're weird... they think they're interesting.
Your child is one click from finding out what that feels like.
