How We Serve
Accreditation, A-G, and College Board
YSA holds three credentials that make sure your student’s work here counts: WASC accreditation, UC A-G registration, and College Board Level 1 approval.
What Is Young Scholars Academy?
The answer depends on your family.
If you are homeschooling
YSA can be your primary school. We are WASC accredited, we issue official transcripts and report cards, and we offer 200+ live courses taught by mentors who understand how gifted or 2e kids learn. Many of our families use YSA as the backbone of their child’s education.
If your child attends school somewhere else
YSA works as enrichment, acceleration, or supplemental credit. Your child can take courses here and share their YSA transcript with their current school for potential credit.
About 65% of our families homeschool. The rest use YSA alongside traditional school, hybrid programs, or independent study. There is no wrong way in. What every family shares is a student who needs something they are not getting somewhere else, and parents who want to make sure the work counts. Families describe it the same way: their kid is wired differently, the current setup is not working, and they need a place where their student can feel welcome while learning about the things that light them up.
YSA holds three credentials that make this possible: WASC accreditation, UC A-G registration, and College Board Level 1 approval.
WASC Accreditation
WASC Accredited Since 2026
Young Scholars Academy received WASC accreditation on January 27, 2026. Our accreditation is valid through June 30, 2029.
YSA is accredited as a Supplementary Education Center through the Accrediting Commission for Schools, Western Association of Schools and Colleges (ACS WASC). WASC is one of six regional accrediting bodies recognized across the United States. It is what schools and colleges look for when they evaluate outside coursework.
What this means for your family
Your student’s YSA coursework comes from an accredited institution. Our programs, mentors, and curriculum have been independently reviewed against rigorous academic and organizational standards. When your student needs to show that their courses are legitimate, the accreditation speaks for itself.
Transcripts and Grades
Families who enroll for credit receive an official transcript and report card. Courses taken for credit receive letter grades. Enrichment courses have no grades and no traditional homework.
Many schools will consider a YSA course for credit. We provide the syllabus, transcript, and documentation your family needs to make that case. The receiving school determines how YSA credits are evaluated.

UC A-G Approval
UC A-G Registered Online Publisher
YSA is a UC-registered online publisher and WASC-accredited Supplementary Education Center. Our college-preparatory high school courses can be certified by schools for A-G and added to A-G course lists.
What A-G means
The A-G requirements are a set of 15 college-preparatory courses that students must complete to be eligible for admission to any University of California or California State University campus. A-G approval means the coursework has been reviewed and meets UC’s academic standards.
The seven subject areas are:
- A History/Social Science 2 years
- B English 4 years
- C Mathematics 3 years, 4 recommended
- D Laboratory Science 2 years, 3 recommended
- E Language Other Than English 2 years, 3 recommended
- F Visual and Performing Arts 1 year
- G College-Preparatory Elective 1 year
How A-G credit works at YSA
YSA is the course publisher. For A-G credit to appear on a student’s transcript, families can take one of three paths:
- Path 1 Most commonYour school lists the course A student’s school adds YSA courses to its approved A-G course list.
- Path 2Your school certifies the course A school counselor or principal certifies the YSA course for A-G credit.
- Path 3Concurrent enrollment The student enrolls concurrently with a diploma-granting partner school.
We provide the course materials, syllabus, and transcript. The school applies the A-G designation.
Even if your family is not in California, A-G approval signals that YSA’s college-prep courses meet one of the most rigorous academic standards in the country. Schools and colleges nationwide recognize that.
College Board Level 1 Approval
College Board Approved — CEEB Code AI 520350
YSA holds College Board Level 1 approval, the highest institutional recognition the College Board offers. Our CEEB code is AI 520350.
What this means for your family
AP Courses
YSA can offer College Board-approved Advanced Placement courses. Individual AP courses go through a separate AP Course Audit, where College Board reviews the syllabus to confirm it meets AP standards. Once a course passes the audit, students can take the corresponding AP exam and potentially earn college credit. YSA currently offers AP-preparatory courses in Calculus AB, Psychology, Comparative Government, and U.S. History. Course audit approvals are in progress.
SSD Accommodations
Students with documented disabilities can receive College Board-approved accommodations through YSA. This includes extended time, breaks, and other supports on AP exams, the SAT, and PSAT. YSA can submit accommodation requests on behalf of enrolled students. Families provide documentation, and we handle the submission.
SAT Fee Waivers
Eligible students can access SAT fee waivers through YSA, reducing the cost of college admissions testing.
Score Access
Families can view AP, PSAT, and SAT scores through YSA’s institutional access.
This approval is not something every online program can offer. It requires meeting the College Board’s institutional standards for governance, curriculum, and student support.
How These Credentials Work Together
Each credential does something different:
- WASC accreditation
Confirms overall program quality. It tells any school, college, or university that YSA meets recognized academic standards.
- UC A-G registration
Allows YSA college-prep courses to carry A-G credit through a student’s high school. This matters for UC/CSU eligibility and signals rigor nationally.
- College Board Level 1 approval
Enables AP courses, testing accommodations, and score access. The CEEB code (AI 520350) is what colleges see when they look up YSA.
Together, these give families multiple pathways to make sure their student’s work here is recognized wherever they need it.
FAQ
Questions Families Ask
Can YSA be our one-stop shop?
It depends on your family. Many of our homeschool families use YSA as their primary academic program. We offer 200+ courses, official transcripts, and WASC accreditation. If you are looking for a complete, community-driven school experience online where your student can learn alongside like-minded peers and mentors who genuinely understand how they think, YSA can be that for you.
What if my child goes to a traditional school?
YSA works beautifully alongside traditional school. Your student can take courses here for enrichment (fun classes, not graded, not stressful) or for credit (letter grades, report card). You can share the YSA report card with your child’s school and ask them to accept it. We will provide everything they need.
Will colleges accept YSA coursework?
YSA is WASC accredited and College Board approved. These are the credentials colleges look for. We cannot guarantee acceptance because that decision belongs to each institution, but we provide the report cards, syllabi, and institutional documentation that admissions offices expect.
How do students earn credit?
Students taking courses for credit receive letter grades and an official transcript/report card from YSA. There are three ways to get that credit recognized: their school adds YSA courses to its approved course list, a counselor or principal certifies the YSA course, or concurrent enrollment with a partner school. Families can also report YSA coursework directly to colleges. Parents can send transcripts directly to schools, and colleges can choose to give credit. This is no different from reporting a dance class or fencing.
What does WASC accreditation mean for my homeschooler?
WASC accreditation means our program has been reviewed against rigorous standards, and it is what schools and colleges look for when they evaluate outside coursework. For homeschool families, this provides the independent credential and documentation that can be hard to produce on your own.
Is YSA a school of record?
YSA is accredited as a Supplementary Education Center, not as a school of record. For A-G credit to be official, a diploma-granting school must certify or list the courses.
What is a CEEB code?
A CEEB (College Entrance Examination Board) code is a unique identifier assigned by the College Board to approved educational institutions. YSA’s CEEB code is AI 520350. Students and school counselors use this code when sending test scores, submitting applications, and accessing College Board services.
Can my student take AP exams through YSA?
YSA’s College Board approval means we can facilitate AP exam registration and accommodations. AP exams are administered at approved testing sites. We help families coordinate the logistics.
Does my student need to be enrolled full-time at YSA to benefit from these credentials?
No. Students can take individual courses at YSA and still benefit from our WASC accreditation and College Board approval for those courses. Many families use YSA for specific AP-preparatory courses or enrichment while their student attends another school for everything else.
Is YSA the same as being an AP school?
College Board Level 1 approval means we are recognized as an institution that can offer AP courses. Each individual AP course must also pass the AP Course Audit before students can take the corresponding AP exam for college credit. YSA’s AP-preparatory courses are designed to meet audit standards.
How do SSD accommodations work?
If your student has a documented disability and needs testing accommodations, YSA can submit an SSD (Services for Students with Disabilities) request to the College Board on their behalf. This covers accommodations for AP exams, the SAT, and the PSAT. Families provide documentation, and we handle the submission.
How many courses does YSA offer?
200+ live courses across enrichment, academics, AP preparation, college prep, and executive function, for students ages 5 to 18.
